THE ECHO PARK LOTUS FESTIVAL celebrates the blooming of these magnificent flowers in Echo Park Lake. The bloom is about a foot across and the leaves are bout 2 1/2 feet across. This stand of giant lotus is very rare outside of Asia and has been growing here since the 1920's. We set up an information booth at the festival in order to inform the public about our Angeleno Heights Trolley Line. We had displays, information and offered free membership cards to those who wanted to show their support for our project. Photo by B. Lash.

There was an overwhelming response to fill out membership forms showing support for the Angeleno Heights Trolley Line at the Echo Park Lotus Festival, 2003. We signed up over 1000 supporters in the 12 to 14 hours our information booth was open. That is well over one every minute! Photo by B. Lash.

OUR ROUTE IN PICTURES. The following 11 pictures show some of the highlights that you will see on our trolley route. We begin in historic Angeleno Heights, the first suburb of Los Angeles, founded in 1886. This neighborhood has the highest concentration of Victorian houses in Los Angeles and over two dozen Cultural-Historic Monuments. It is a must see for everyone living in, or visiting, Los Angeles. Located just a mile or so northwest of Downtown. Photo by B. Lash.

Union Station is another very important stop on our route. Our MAP page doesn't show it, but we will turn the corner by Olvera St. and go over to Union Station. From here you can connect to all of the Metro Lines and Metro Link trains. It is the transportation hub of Los Angeles. Photo by B. Lash.

It took 2 days of hard work to unload and nudge the Birney into a neighbor's yard using forklifts.
Finally, the car is in its temporary home, safely back in Angeleno Heights. |

Birney car #1030 arrives on Douglas St. in Angeleno Heights. It is the first time that it has been here in 56 years! We are thrilled to see it! The last time it ran here was in 1946. We intend to see that it runs once again in our historic neighborhood and the surrounding historic areas.
